Who is Medivo?
Medivo, or the “medical virtual office”, provides invaluable support services to patients and physician practices. Some of the services we provide include patient tools for lab testing and scheduling reminders for physician office visits.
Many patients forget to get tested regularly, others miss scheduled lab test appointments or fail to schedule follow-up visits with their physician. Medivo steps in to help! With our laboratory partnerships and physician network, we are able to identify your patients that need lab tests, send them requisitions for needed tests, send test results to you and your patient, and encourage your patients to schedule follow-up office visits. For over 10 years Medivo has been a trusted provider of testing services to improve the care and treatment of patients. Testimonials from some of your colleagues have been provided below.
What is Medivo PatientPath?
Medivo PatientPath provides your practice with a free monthly report that identifies your patients who need further testing or office visits using recent test data pulled from your local, regional and national reference labs. We identify patients using our proven algorithms that analyze lab test results and diagnostic codes. With this information in hand, we provide physicians with monthly reports summarizing trends and identifying specific patients in need of follow-up.
What does PatientPath cost?
PatientPath is provided 100% free to select physicians.
How does Medivo offer PatientPath for free?
Medivo offers PatientPath at no cost to you. You may receive advertisements and promotional material from time to time. Medivo will not share information about you or your patients with others without the express consent of you or your patient.
How does the Medivo PatientPath program work?
Medivo contracts with physician practices as a Business Associate under HIPAA. Once this Business Associate Agreement is in place, Medivo retrieves your patient’s lab data from local, regional and national lab partners as your Business Associate. Thereafter, Medivo analyzes this data using our clinical algorithms and identifies patients who need laboratory tests and office follow-up. Practices are provided customized reports to help with patient treatment and overall care (i.e., the reports identify patients in need of laboratory testing and follow-up care).
How does Medivo know which of my patients need lab tests?
As part of Medivo PatientPath, Medivo retrieves and analyzes lab test results of all your patients over the past 12 months. When we collect this data, we apply our proven clinical algorithms to help us identify patients who meet specific criterion for needing lab tests. For example, if there is a patient who has an HgA1c that was 8% six months ago and has not been tested since, that patient is identified as needing a new HgA1c test.
Is Medivo PatientPath HIPAA compliant?
Medivo PatientPath is fully compliant with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). HIPAA allows practices and their Business Associates to use a patient’s health information for treatment purposes. Medivo PatientPath collects patient laboratory data and delivers informational reports to help with patient treatment and overall care. We protect the privacy and security of your patient health information using best-in-class, audited, technical and physical safeguards, including full encryption of electronic health information. Medivo’s operations are audited annually by independent auditors to ensure its security design and controls are acceptable and appropriate.
What is contained in the monthly reports as part of Medivo PatientPath?
Practices will receive monthly reports on, among other things:
- Patient Population Overview (Aggregate Trends): a summary of your patient laboratory testing activity for the prior month
- Patient Lab Summary (Detailed Registry): specific analysis identifying patients who may need laboratory testing along with your patient’s contact information.
How do I use the reports?
The reports provide both a trend view of your entire patient population as well as the names, contact information, and clinical data that can identify specific patients in your practice that need laboratory tests or appointments. If the report indicates a patient who did not show up for a lab appointment, you can use the information to reach out to reschedule that patient.
How do I get the reports?
You can choose to receive the reports via US mail, fax or via email notification with a link to the report on our secure website. You can download a PDF version of the report that can then be viewed or printed on your office computer or mobile device.
Will anyone contact my patients?
From time to time, Medivo may contact your patients, on your behalf and with your permission, to offer them an opportunity to participate in patient support programs designed to provide patient tools and information to improve health and wellness. Such programs include lab testing services, disease monitoring, patient education, and scheduling reminders for office visits with you.
All programs are voluntary and your patients have no obligation to participate. Medivo will notify you when these programs are in place for a specific disease or condition. You can notify Medivo if you do not want your patients contacted for participation.
What will my patients receive if they are invited to participate in a patient support program?
Your patients will receive an initial letter, on your behalf, explaining the patient support program and offering them an opportunity to participate. Participation is always voluntary. Additional eligibility criteria may apply. If your patient chooses to participate in a program, he will receive helpful tools and information to improve his health and wellness which may include lab testing services and patient education. We will not charge your patients fees for their participation in a program – however, your patients may incur lab testing charges which they can pay through their health insurance. For each patient who receives lab testing under a program, Medivo will issue a lab requisition authorized by you which they can take to their local lab for fulfillment. After testing is complete, Medivo will give patients an easy-to-understand lab test result along with instructions to follow up with you for further care.
Will my patients receive anything else from the patient support programs?
Your patients will not receive any unsolicited marketing material without their express consent. Materials which your patients agree to receive may include educational and informational materials from sponsors on products and services which may be of interest to them. Sponsors may include health plans and life science companies. We will not, however, share patient personal information with sponsors without a patient’s express consent.
Who has access to my patients’ information?
Only Medivo as your Business Associate and you will have access to your patient’s protected health information. No other person will receive any of your patient’s protected health information without you or your patient’s express consent.
